House of Hope
Our Call:
“He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing.” Deuteronomy 10:18
“Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.” Psalm 82:3
“Learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the ruthless, defend the orphans, plead for the widow.” Isaiah 1:17
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
Our Heart:
To remove barriers for children in foster care who are awaiting placement in a loving and safe environment.
To support Dept. of Children’s Services (DCS) staff and private foster care social workers who oversee children in foster care on a daily basis.
To be a resource for local foster families.
Our Purpose:
There are over 800 children in DCS custody within our fourteen county region; over 600 of them are from Lincoln County and seven nearby counties (Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Giles, Lawrence, Marshall, and Moore). House of Hope will be open to serve all of these children plus any children in private foster care custody that could include children in other states (including Alabama) . House of Hope will provide a safe home whether these children are newly removed from their home or had a disruption and are between placements.
When children are removed from their parents’ homes out of concern for their safety and wellbeing, DCS and private foster care staff usually bring them to their office while they search for a foster home or residential placement. Many of these children arrive to the office with only the clothes they are wearing. They are frightened, lonely, hungry, angry, and confused during a very traumatic time in their life. The wait can last several hours for babies and young children to many days and weeks for older children. Meals are brought to the office and many children sleep on the floor each night as they wait for placement.
House of Hope will remove barriers to placement by providing a comfortable and safe home where they can be brought to wait until placement. Children staying at House of Hope will receive:
A comfy twin-size bed
New clothes and laundry services
Opportunities to shower and receive lice treatments if needed
New toys, comfy furniture to watch TV, and a privacy fenced in backyard with playground
Home-cooked meals and access to snacks throughout the day
Friendly, certified volunteers and plenty of smiles and encouragement
House of Hope will be a calm place where children can find rest in the midst of chaos and confusion. Children will receive the support they need while their case worker locates an appropriate placement for them.
